Dariush Misses Weight, Fined 20% Ahead of UFC 322 Fight
URGENT UPDATE: In a shocking turn of events, lightweight veteran Beneil Dariush has missed weight by 1.2 pounds, weighing in at 157.2 pounds ahead of his highly anticipated bout against Benoit Saint Denis at UFC 322. The weigh-in took place earlier today at Madison Square Garden, where the limit for a non-title lightweight contest is 156 pounds.
As a result, Dariush will forfeit 20 percent of his purse. Although the exact amount of the fine remains undisclosed—due to fighter purses being confidential in New York—the decision adds an additional layer of pressure as he prepares for the fight, which is still set to proceed as planned on the UFC 322 main card.
This marks the second time Dariush (record: 23-6-1) has missed weight in his career, the first instance occurring in 2020. The stakes are high as Dariush looks to regain momentum against the formidable Saint Denis, who holds a record of 15-3.
In other news from the UFC 322 card, former lightweight champion Islam Makhachev is making headlines as he weighs in at 170 pounds for his welterweight title fight against Jack Della Maddalena (record: 18-2). This move marks Makhachev’s first venture into a higher weight class, as he aims to become the UFC’s latest two-weight champion.
Additionally, former strawweight champion Zhang Weili is also on the path to history. She weighed in at 124.6 pounds for her title fight against flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko (record: 25-4-1), as both fighters set their sights on making history in the octagon.
With UFC 322 set to take place shortly, fans are eagerly awaiting what promises to be an electrifying event. The implications of Dariush’s missed weight and the performance of other fighters on the card will be crucial for their futures in the UFC.
Stay tuned for ongoing updates as the fight approaches, and make sure to follow the action live. This is a developing story that is sure to keep the MMA community buzzing.
