North Devon Brothers Win Prestigious Young Guns Award
Two brothers from North Devon, Scott and Cameron Stevenson, have earned the prestigious Young Guns Award at the British Franchise Awards for 2025. Recognized for their rapid growth in the eco-friendly surfacing industry, the duo has made significant strides since acquiring the Oltco North Devon franchise in 2022. Their business specializes in resin-bound resurfacing solutions, utilizing recycled plastic combined with stone to create durable surfaces for driveways, patios, and pathways.
The brothers have made an impressive impact with their use of Oltco’s innovative product, Recycle Bound, which has enabled them to recycle the equivalent of 47 million plastic straws through their projects across Devon. Their dedication to sustainability and commitment to high-quality service have positioned Oltco North Devon on track for a projected turnover of £1 million in 2025-26, solidifying their status in the region’s sustainable construction landscape.
Celebrating Success and Community Impact
The British Franchise Awards, often referred to as the ‘Oscars of franchising,’ celebrate the best of the UK’s entrepreneurial achievements. Sponsored by HSBC UK, this year’s awards highlighted rising stars in various sectors. Scott Stevenson, who transitioned from a career in the Royal Navy and offshore renewables, expressed pride in the recognition. “Winning the Young Guns Award is a huge moment for us and for Oltco,” he stated. “We’ve worked hard to build a business that reflects Oltco’s values of innovation, sustainability, and quality.”
His brother Cameron added, “Running a business with my brother has been a brilliant journey. We’ve faced every challenge together and shared every success. This award feels like a win for everyone who’s supported us, from our customers to our team.” The brothers’ sentiments reflect their belief in community collaboration and their commitment to making a positive environmental impact.
Industry Recognition and Future Aspirations
The achievement of Scott and Cameron was acknowledged by Pip Wilkins, CEO of the British Franchise Association. “Our huge congratulations to Scott and Cam,” she remarked. “They are shining examples of successful, ethical franchising in the UK, leading the way in making this sector a success.”
John Pearce, director at Oltco, also commended their accomplishment, noting that the franchise model empowers individuals to launch profitable, purpose-driven businesses. “Scott and Cameron’s success at the British Franchise Awards is a testament to the possibilities when hard work meets innovation,” he added.
As they continue to expand and innovate, the Stevensons aim to further their commitment to sustainability while fostering local community engagement. Their journey exemplifies what can be achieved through dedication and a shared vision for environmental responsibility in business.
