Robert Plant Delivers Mesmerizing 90-Minute Set at Vic Theatre
UPDATE: Rock legend Robert Plant captivated a sold-out audience at Chicago’s Vic Theatre on November 12, 2025, delivering a stunning 90-minute performance that traversed over a century of musical history.
The iconic former frontman of Led Zeppelin showcased his transformation into the “Mighty ReArranger,” engaging fans with a meticulously curated selection of songs that blended traditional folk with modern sounds. Plant’s band, Saving Grace, featured the exceptional talents of vocalist Suzi Dian and a lineup of virtuoso musicians, creating an atmosphere that was both haunting and enchanting.
With a relaxed demeanor, the 77-year-old Plant brought a carefree vibe to the stage, reminiscent of a cozy neighborhood jam session. His signature curly locks flowed freely as he interacted joyfully with his bandmates, igniting the crowd’s enthusiasm as they explored music’s earthiness and emotional depth.
Plant and Dian’s harmonies soared on a variety of tracks, including multiple Led Zeppelin classics, reimagined through a roots and folk lens. The performance included poignant renditions of songs like “Ramble On” and “Four Sticks,” which were infused with global influences from Mali, the Middle East, and the American Deep South.
The setlist also showcased contemporary covers, including “Higher Rock” by Martha Scanlan and “For the Turnstiles” by Neil Young, demonstrating Plant’s ability to navigate diverse musical landscapes. The band brought an organic chemistry to the performance, originally formed as a casual gathering of friends sharing music that had “fallen through the cracks.”
Plant expressed his astonishment at the evolution of Saving Grace from a low-key project into a touring ensemble, a venture he never anticipated. His connection with the audience was palpable, as he encouraged them to respond to his queries and shared anecdotes laced with humor.
The crowd erupted in cheers as Plant showcased his harmonica skills during a gripping Chicago blues solo in “Higher Rock.” Dian shone brightly on the aching “Too Far from You,” further enhancing the emotional tapestry of the evening.
As the show reached its crescendo, Plant skillfully navigated through powerful arrangements, using strategic pauses and layered rhythms that allowed each song to breathe. The performance culminated in a triumphant encore featuring “The Rain Song” and a medley of “Gallows Pole” into “Black Dog,” cementing the night as a testament to Plant’s enduring artistry.
Fans left the Vic Theatre buzzing with excitement, reflecting on a rare opportunity to witness a legendary artist reimagine his past while embracing new musical possibilities.
As Plant prepares for an upcoming benefit concert at the Old Town School of Folk Music on November 13, all eyes are on this transformative artist as he continues to redefine the boundaries of music.
