Beta Cinema Secures Key International Deals for ‘Operation Napoleon’ Sequel
Beta Cinema has successfully closed a series of international presales for the upcoming Nordic conspiracy thriller, Operation Napoleon – Tears of the Wolf. Currently in production across Finland, Iceland, and Germany, the film has secured distribution rights in key territories, marking a significant step forward for the project. Notably, Magnolia Pictures has acquired the rights for North America, while other agreements have been made with Signature Entertainment for the UK and Ireland, Mediawan for France, Twelve Oaks for Spain, and Hagi Film for Poland.
This sequel follows the success of the original Operation Napoleon, which was sold to more than 40 territories, including the U.S. market, and achieved significant acclaim in Germany in 2023. The new installment reunites a talented cast including Vivian Ólafsdóttir (known for It Hatched), Jack Fox (from Riviera), and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (famed for Severance and True Detective).
Plot and Production Details
Directed by Jyri Kähönen, who also helmed the original film, the screenplay is penned by Marteinn Thorisson, the original scribe, and Tom Weston-Jones (known for True Things and Warrior). The cast expands to include Laura Birn (from Void and Foundation), who joins as a significant character.
In this sequel, Ólafsdóttir reprises her role as Kristin Jóhannesdóttir, a lawyer embroiled in an international conspiracy after being wrongfully accused of murder. The storyline follows Kristin and her team as they pursue the legendary “Tears of the Wolf,” a trove of Nazi diamonds hidden during World War II. The plot thickens when Kristin witnesses a murder, leading her to decode encrypted messages and musical clues that guide the team across Iceland, Finland, and Germany. The climax unfolds in the historic bunkers of Helsinki and the picturesque Finnish archipelago.
Production Team and Release Plans
The production is spearheaded by Anita Elsani and Alexander Klein from Germany’s Splendid Entertainment, along with Kjartan Thor Thordarson of Sagafilm (covering Sweden and Iceland), and Eero Hietala and Sara Norberg from Take Two Studios in Finland. Elsani Film is co-producing the project.
Distribution plans include theatrical releases by Sam Film in Iceland, Splendid Film in Germany, and Cinemanse in Finland. This week, Beta Cinema is showcasing the first promotional reel of Operation Napoleon – Tears of the Wolf at the American Film Market, generating excitement for the film’s upcoming release.
With a strong production team and an engaging storyline, Operation Napoleon – Tears of the Wolf aims to capture audiences’ attention and build on the success of its predecessor.
