The Miami Hurricanes have made significant strides in their recruiting efforts, securing a commitment from four-star defensive lineman DeAnthony Lafayette on Monday evening. This marks the team’s second blue-chip prospect added in just two days, highlighting an energized recruiting push as they prepare for the future.

Lafayette, a native of Orlando, chose the Hurricanes over several other prestigious programs, including Florida State and Oklahoma. He had previously committed to LSU before deciding to join Miami. Currently, he is ranked as the No. 36 edge rusher and the No. 391 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class.

Impressive Track Record and Athletic Versatility

The standout defensive end has already made a name for himself on the field. Last season, he recorded an impressive total of 73 tackles and 17.5 sacks. This season, Lafayette has built upon that success, accumulating 58 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, and 14.5 sacks. His performance has earned him a spot on the 2024 Orlando Sentinel All-Area first-team.

Standing at 6 feet 1 inch and weighing 230 pounds, Lafayette possesses a remarkable wingspan of 6 feet 8 inches, as noted by a source from the University of Miami. His athletic prowess extends beyond football; he has also excelled in track, running the 100-meter dash in an impressive time of 11.3 seconds and setting a school record in discus. Notably, he has showcased his versatility by playing running back, contributing significantly to his team with two touchdowns this season.

Character and Team Fit

Beyond his physical attributes and athletic achievements, Lafayette’s character has caught the attention of the Miami coaching staff. A source from the university indicated that they value not only his skills on the field but also his positive demeanor and work ethic.

With Lafayette’s commitment, he becomes the second defensive end in Miami’s recruiting class, joining fellow four-star prospect Asharri Charles. As the Hurricanes continue to build their roster for the future, Lafayette’s addition is expected to bolster their defensive line significantly.

Miami’s recruiting efforts appear to be gaining momentum, and with players like Lafayette, the program is positioning itself for success in the coming years.
