South Carolina Mom Catches 12-Foot Alligator Just Months After Baby
BREAKING: In an extraordinary feat, a woman in South Carolina has caught a massive 12-foot, 597-pound alligator just months after giving birth. Brittany Livingston, dubbed “Gator Girl,” made headlines following the incredible catch that has captivated local residents.
The momentous event occurred in the early hours of September, when the Livingstons triumphantly displayed the enormous alligator in their pickup truck. Footage of the couple going through a West Ashley McDonald’s drive-thru with the gator has since gone viral, showcasing the amazement of onlookers. “We had a lot of eyes on us,” Brittany told Live 5 News. “People were waving, giving thumbs up… even the workers at McDonald’s came outside to see it.”
For five long years, Brittany applied for an alligator hunting tag through South Carolina’s lottery system. In 2025, her persistence paid off when her name was finally selected for Unit 4, covering the Pee Dee region, an area known for its alligator population. “You gain preference points each year,” Brittany explained, emphasizing her excitement after finally having enough points to hunt.
Each hunting season, over 12,000 applicants vie for only 1,400 hunting tags issued by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. The program aims to manage alligator populations responsibly. “The goal is not to eliminate alligators,” stated Jay Butfiloski, South Carolina’s former alligator program coordinator. “It’s to allow some harvest, which helps manage the population and reduce nuisance issues.”
The Livingstons faced a grueling battle with the alligator that lasted for hours. They ultimately succeeded in the hunt, shooting the reptile just after 3:00 a.m., a testament to their dedication and skill.
This incredible story not only highlights the thrill of hunting but also the emotional journey of a new mother who took on a remarkable challenge just months after welcoming her child. As the news spreads, expect the Livingstons’ story to inspire others, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and adventure in life.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as it continues to capture the imagination of South Carolinians and beyond.
