Roxborough Hosts ‘Phillbillies Help Fill Bellies’ Food Drive on Nov. 16
The Roxborough Development Corporation and the Mitchell Street Phillbillies are set to host a food drive on November 16, aimed at addressing food insecurity in the local community. The event, titled “Phillbillies Help Fill Bellies,” will take place from noon to 16:00 at Pocket Park, located at 6170 Ridge Avenue.
Organizers have highlighted the growing challenges many families are facing, particularly with the recent cuts to SNAP benefits and food assistance programs. “With recent impacts to SNAP benefits and food assistance, many local families are facing increased challenges this November — especially as the holidays approach,” they stated. The goal of this initiative is to support those in need within the community, emphasizing that “food is not a luxury, it’s a necessity.”
The food drive will not only serve as a collection point for donations but will also feature a free concert showcasing local musicians. Attendees are encouraged to contribute non-perishable food items, which will be distributed to several local organizations including Roxborough Church, Unity, Northern Children’s Services, and the North Light Community Center.
Organizers have outlined specific items that are in high demand, including dry and canned beans, canned vegetables, boxed meal kits, and essential personal care products such as soap, toothpaste, tampons, and pads. Additionally, items like peanut butter, shelf-stable milk, jams, rice, canned tuna or chicken, cooking oils, pasta, condiments, canned tomatoes, cereal, and pancake mix and syrup are also welcome.
The community-driven event aims not only to fill the bellies of those in need but also to foster a spirit of solidarity and support among local residents. For more information, interested parties can visit the Roxborough Development Corporation’s website at https://roxboroughpa.com.
As the holiday season approaches, this initiative represents a vital opportunity for residents to come together and make a tangible difference in the lives of their neighbors.
