Urgent Rescue Underway for Trapped Miner in Drennen, WV

UPDATE: A miner is currently unaccounted for and believed to be trapped approximately 3/4 of a mile underground at the Rolling Thunder Mines in Drennen, West Virginia. The Nicholas County Commission President D. Craig Chapman confirmed the urgent situation, stating that search and rescue efforts are actively underway.

The flooding at the mines began around 1 p.m. today, prompting immediate action from emergency services. As of 10 p.m., crews have been tirelessly pumping water from the mine to locate the missing miner. Thankfully, all other miners have been accounted for, but the focus remains on rescuing the trapped individual.

The county’s Office of Emergency Services director provided an update earlier today, highlighting the critical nature of the rescue operation. As darkness falls, search and rescue teams continue their efforts with the hope of reaching the miner safely.
