Shots Fired at CBP Agents in Chicago During Immigration Operation
URGENT UPDATE: Shots were fired at Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents in Little Village, Chicago, on November 8, during a federal immigration enforcement operation. One or more unidentified individuals in a black Jeep opened fire on agents who were detaining a young woman as part of Operation Midway Blitz. This operation targets federal immigration laws in the sanctuary city of Chicago.
The incident, which occurred near 26th Street and Kedzie Avenue, escalated quickly as protesters gathered to demand the woman’s release. Eyewitness reports indicate that the protest grew increasingly chaotic, with some individuals throwing bricks and a paint can at CBP vehicles. In response to the violence, the Department of Homeland Security released a statement on social media, noting, “This incident is not isolated and reflects a growing and dangerous trend of violence and obstruction.”
Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported from gunfire, and the Chicago Police Department was dispatched to restore order. However, one police officer was injured after being struck by a vehicle during the chaos and was taken to a local hospital. His condition remains undisclosed.
According to WLS-TV, Ald. Byron Sigcho-Lopez criticized the CBP agents for their aggressive response, claiming they “came out of their vehicles pointing their weapons” and used tear gas on protesters. Following the incident, CBP agents resumed their activities around 26th and Pulaski, deploying tear gas again to disperse the crowd as they attempted to detain another individual.
The violence surrounding this operation highlights the increasing dangers federal law enforcement faces during immigration enforcement actions. “Over the past two months, we’ve seen an increase in assaults and obstruction targeting federal law enforcement during operations,” the DHS statement continued. The ongoing confrontations raise serious concerns about safety for both law enforcement and the community.
Authorities have not made any arrests as they continue to search for the driver of the black Jeep. The situation remains tense, with federal agents and protesters clashing over immigration policies that have ignited fierce debate and division in the community.
As the story develops, the community and law enforcement are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to these confrontations. Stay tuned for further updates on this evolving situation.
