VTA Launches Discounted Veterans Fare Pass for Year-End Savings
UPDATE: The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) has just announced a special initiative to honor U.S. military veterans by offering a discounted fare program through the end of 2025. This Veterans Pass allows veterans to ride VTA buses and light rail for only $1.00 per single ride, significantly reducing transportation costs during this critical time.
Starting immediately, veterans can purchase the Veterans Pass exclusively via the Token Transit app, which enables unlimited transfers within two hours of activation. This initiative provides over 50% savings compared to the standard adult fare, making public transportation more affordable and accessible for those who have bravely served our country.
In order to utilize this offer, veterans must provide valid proof of their status upon request from a VTA Operator or Fare Inspector. Accepted forms of identification include the Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC), Veteran ID Card (VIC), Department of Defense (DoD) Identification Card, or a state-issued driver’s license featuring a veteran’s designation.
This pilot program highlights VTA’s commitment to supporting veterans and improving public transportation in Santa Clara County. In conjunction with this launch, VTA will also participate in the San Jose Veterans Day Parade to further honor local veterans and their sacrifices.
For additional information about the Veterans Pass, visit vta.org or contact VTA Customer Service at (408) 321-2300. Please note that the discounted fare is valid only during the pilot period, and any unused tickets will expire at the end of 2025. Future decisions regarding potential permanent fare changes will involve comprehensive public engagement and assessments.
This urgent initiative allows veterans to save significantly on transportation costs and ensures they receive the respect and support they deserve. Share this news to spread the word and help veterans take advantage of this crucial opportunity!
