Blizzard Confirms Major WoW API Changes to Combat AddOns

UPDATE: Blizzard Entertainment has just announced significant changes to the API of World of Warcraft in the upcoming Midnight update, targeting combat AddOns that provide players with competitive advantages. Game director Ion Hazzikostas confirmed these adjustments during an interview, revealing that the aim is to “level the playing field” for all players.

Hazzikostas acknowledged the challenges, especially regarding accessibility for players with disabilities, such as those with protanopic colourblindness. He noted, “If it turns out that we’re unable to hit that mark, we’re definitely open to adding an audio countdown solution to help.” However, this would be integrated into the base UI, rather than requiring an AddOn.
