Alvin Kamara Reaffirms Commitment to Saints Amid Trade Rumors

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara has publicly stated his desire to remain with the team, despite ongoing trade speculation. Speaking on Thursday, Kamara addressed a report from NFL Network which suggested that Saints general manager Mickey Loomis had approached him regarding interest from other teams. Kamara made it clear that his intention is to stay in New Orleans.
During the press conference, Kamara recounted a conversation with Loomis, saying, “We talked about it [the report] and we was looking at each other like the little Spiderman meme: ‘Did you say something? Did I say something?'” He emphasized that he has consistently expressed his wish to remain with the Saints, adding, “I think everybody knows that. The fanbase knows that.”
Kamara, who has been with the Saints since being drafted in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, previously indicated his commitment to the team during contract negotiations last summer. He stated, “I want to be a Saint for a long time, for as long as my career goes.” In mid-2022, he signed an extension that secures his position with the Saints through the 2026 season, with $3 million of his base salary guaranteed for that year.
Despite the rumors, Kamara maintained focus on his performance, stating, “I just got to keep my head down.” He noted that he is accustomed to trade talks and does not let them distract him from his game. “I mean it’s been like that for years,” he remarked. “I’m just focused on what I’m doing. I don’t really think about it too much.”
Concerns about trade discussions are not limited to Kamara. Saints wide receiver Chris Olave, who is also facing speculation, acknowledged the noise surrounding the team’s 1-5 record. “That’s part of the business, man,” Olave commented. He indicated that he is aware of the chatter but remains confident after discussions with team officials. “I keep that between me and [them],” he stated, choosing to maintain privacy regarding those conversations.
Kamara has been navigating an ankle injury in recent weeks, which sidelined him from practice on Wednesday. He returned to training on Thursday as part of a maintenance program to ensure his recovery. Throughout the season, he has played all six games, carrying the ball 83 times for 314 yards and one touchdown.
As the trade deadline approaches, both players are focused on their performance and contributions to the Saints. Kamara’s commitment to the franchise remains strong, and he continues to work towards helping the team find success on the field, regardless of external distractions.
