Dodgers Surge Ahead 2-0 After Yamamoto’s Historic Complete Game

URGENT UPDATE: The Los Angeles Dodgers have taken a commanding 2-0 lead in the National League Championship Series after a stunning 5-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on October 10, 2023. In a remarkable performance, Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitched a three-hitter, delivering the first postseason complete game in eight years.
This pivotal win puts the Dodgers in a strong position as the series shifts to Los Angeles for Game 3 on Thursday. Max Muncy and Teoscar Hernández both launched solo home runs, with Muncy’s 412-foot drive setting a new Dodgers postseason record for homers with 14, surpassing legends Corey Seager and Justin Turner.
Yamamoto, who faced an early challenge when Jackson Chourio hit a home run on his very first pitch, quickly regained his composure. The right-hander allowed only two additional hits over the course of the game, marking his first complete game in the majors and the first in postseason history since Justin Verlander accomplished the feat in 2017.
“It was important for me to bounce back after that home run,” Yamamoto said post-game. “I focused on executing my pitches and trusting my team.”
In a historic twist, this series marks the first time since 1970 that both road teams have started the League Championship Series 2-0. The Seattle Mariners also hold a 2-0 lead in the ALCS, making this an unprecedented postseason.
Authorities confirm that 24 of the last 27 teams that won the first two games on the road in a best-of-seven series have gone on to win. The only teams to come back after losing Games 1 and 2 at home did so in the World Series, raising the stakes for the Brewers as they look to avoid a daunting deficit.
In a bid to energize their team, the Brewers enlisted former slugger Eric Thames to rally fans before the game. However, despite his efforts and Chourio’s early homer, the Brewers struggled offensively, managing just five hits across the series.
The Dodgers’ pitching staff has been dominant, with Blake Snell allowing only one hit in Game 1. This marks the first time since San Francisco’s Madison Bumgarner and Tim Lincecum achieved consecutive eight-inning postseason starts in the 2010 World Series.
After Chourio’s home run, the Dodgers responded quickly with Hernández hitting a crucial three-run homer, followed by a two-run rally featuring key hits from Andy Pages and Muncy. The Dodgers are now eyeing a sweep as they prepare for Game 3, which promises to be an electrifying matchup.
Stay tuned as we continue to follow the latest developments in this thrilling postseason battle. The Dodgers look poised to make history, while the Brewers must regroup and strategize ahead of Thursday’s game. Will Milwaukee bounce back, or will Los Angeles continue its dominance? The countdown to Game 3 is on!
