Urgent Update: Brown University Shooter Linked to MIT Professor’s Death
BREAKING: The man identified as the suspect in a mass shooting at Brown University is now also believed to have killed a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Authorities confirmed that Claudio Manuel Neves-Valente, a 48-year-old Portuguese national, was found dead in a storage unit in Salem, New Hampshire, where he is suspected to have taken his own life.
During a press conference on October 5, 2023, United States Attorney Leah Foley revealed the shocking developments. “This evening at approximately 9 p.m., federal agents breached a storage locker in Salem, New Hampshire, in search of Claudio Neves-Valente, a Portuguese national we believed shot and killed two Brown University students and an MIT professor in Brookline, Massachusetts,” Foley stated. The tragic incident has left the community in shock and mourning.
The shooting at Brown University resulted in the deaths of Eli Brown, a 19-year-old from Alabama and vice-president of the College Republicans at the university, and Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, an aspiring doctor. Both were killed in a brutal attack that has shaken the Ivy League campus.
The manhunt for Neves-Valente spanned several days, after the FBI initially announced a person of interest was in custody but later released him. The situation escalated when Neves-Valente was connected to the murder of Nuno Loureiro, an MIT professor who was shot at his Brookline home on October 2, 2023. Loureiro succumbed to his injuries the following day, intensifying the urgency of the investigation.
Authorities have confirmed that Neves-Valente and Loureiro attended the same Portuguese university, establishing a troubling link between the two men. The FBI’s involvement reflects the gravity of the situation, as federal agents worked tirelessly to locate the suspect before discovering his tragic end.
As this story continues to unfold, the community is left grappling with the loss of young lives and the implications of this violence. The FBI is expected to provide further updates as they investigate the full scope of Neves-Valente’s actions and his motives.
Stay tuned for more developing news on this tragic story, as it highlights the urgent need for discussions around campus safety and gun violence.
