Conservative Lawyers Declare Hegseth’s Comments an ‘Admission of Guilt’
URGENT UPDATE: Two prominent conservative lawyers have just declared that comments made by Pete Hegseth amount to an “admission of guilt” amid a growing scandal. This alarming declaration comes in light of a Washington Post report detailing Hegseth’s alleged orders to kill survivors of controversial drug vessel bombings, raising serious legal and ethical questions.
Former prosecutor Andrew McCarthy stated that Hegseth’s defense “makes no legal sense” and questioned whether the actions described could be classified as murder or a war crime. McCarthy’s critique follows Hegseth’s assertion that the operations, which involved SEAL Team 6, were intended as lethal strikes against suspected traffickers.
According to the Washington Post, Hegseth, who reportedly directed the attacks from Fort Bragg, N.C., ordered the killing of two survivors to eliminate potential threats. McCarthy, however, argues that these actions could constitute a war crime under federal law if they occurred as reported. He emphasized that attacking individuals who are no longer able to fight violates the laws of warfare.
In a powerful essay published late on October 14, 2023, McCarthy wrote, “If this happened as described in the Post report, it was, at best, a war crime under federal law.” He further elaborated that Admiral Frank M. ‘Mitch’ Bradley, who led the operation, suggested that the survivors remained legitimate targets. McCarthy firmly contests this justification, stating, “Neither Hegseth’s statement nor the explanation attributed to Bradley… makes legal sense.”
This scandal has prompted significant backlash, with conservative attorney George Conway echoing McCarthy’s sentiments by labeling Hegseth’s remarks a “confession” to heinous crimes. The mounting scrutiny around Hegseth’s actions raises urgent questions about military conduct and accountability.
As this situation develops, observers are closely monitoring the legal implications of Hegseth’s orders and the potential ramifications for those involved in the operation. With calls for accountability growing louder, the debate over military ethics and legality is expected to intensify.
Stay tuned for more updates on this breaking story as it unfolds. The implications of these allegations could resonate across the political landscape and beyond.
