Urgent Holiday Events: Christmas Parties, Workshops, and More
URGENT UPDATE: Exciting holiday events are unfolding across the region, providing opportunities for community connection and festive cheer. Mark your calendars for these immediate happenings!
CrossPoint Church at 214 S. Court St. is hosting a “Favorite Things” Women’s Christmas Party on December 8 at 6:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring three wrapped items (valued between $5 to $10) that reflect their favorite things from the year. In just a few days, St. Matthias Roman Catholic Church, located at 101 W. Burrell Drive, will kick off its annual winter workshop on December 1 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This hands-on event focuses on creating festive holiday greenery, featuring a 12” planter and assorted fresh cut greenery. Participants will receive expert assistance to create their own holiday displays. For inquiries, call 219-663-2201.
On Sundays, start your week with worship at Marquette Park United Methodist Church at 215 N. Grand Blvd., where services begin at 11:15 a.m.. Refreshments will be served afterward in the Fellowship Hall, creating a welcoming atmosphere for all.
Join Faith United Church of Christ at 3030 175th St. for their Sunday service at 10 a.m., followed by fellowship and coffee, fostering community spirit on a weekly basis.
Looking ahead, Saint Joseph Catholic Church at 5304 Hohman Ave. will host “Donut Sunday” on the last Sunday of the month after the 9 a.m. Mass. Enjoy free coffee and donuts while connecting with fellow parishioners.
In a heartwarming initiative, the Diocese of Gary at 9292 Broadway is collecting donations of hats, scarves, and gloves for its Caps for Kids campaign. Contributions are accepted through January, supporting the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Checks can be mailed to “Caps for Kids” at 2714 169th St., Hammond, IN 46323. Also, don’t miss Our Lady of Queen of Martyrs – South Campus at 8303 Taft St. celebrating Simbang Gabi with Bishop Robert J. McClory on December 20 at 4 p.m. This cherished Filipino Christmas tradition features nine days of Masses, culminating in a festive reception.
Lastly, join the annual Christmas Tree and Wreath Sale at St. Thomas More Church, beginning on November 28. Located at 8501 Calumet Ave., the sale runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends. Proceeds will benefit local charities, making this a perfect opportunity to support your community while finding the perfect holiday tree.
