UPDATE: A nostalgic retail shift is underway as Barnes & Noble prepares to replace a former Party City location in Melbourne, Florida, following the latter’s closure amid financial struggles. JUST ANNOUNCED: The bookstore giant will occupy a spacious 23,000-square-foot storefront, complete with a café serving Starbucks beverages, although customers cannot use Starbucks rewards or orders through their app. The new store is strategically located near an Aldi, Five Below, and Planet Fitness, providing a vibrant shopping hub for residents.

PARTY CITY shuttered its doors after 40 years in business, filing for bankruptcy twice in the past two years—first in January 2023 and again in December 2024. The decision to close all stores in 2025 reflects ongoing challenges in the retail sector, making room for new opportunities.

Barnes & Noble’s move is part of a broader strategy, as the retailer has announced plans to open over 60 new locations in 2025, surpassing its record of 57 stores opened last year.
